From the united nations
Overall, the goal of the United Nations is to make sure that all children, regardless of gender, have access to and will be able to complete a full course of primary education.
The UN wants to keep children in school, as of 2010, 61 million children of primary school age were not in school. Most of them (an estimated 33 million) were living in sub-Saharan Africa, and 13 million in Southern Asia.
They also want to increase the quality of schooling, and as the numbers of primary school finishers increase, the next step is secondary school.
The final goal is to close literacy gaps amongst youth. In 2010, there were 95 illiterate young women for every 95 young men, which is up from 1990's 90 women.
